(At 80 Km . from Los Mochis )

Founded by the Spanish Captain Conqueror Francisco of Ibarra in 1564, this beautiful colonial city call thus by the fortification that was built in that place to defend the Spanish possessions from the attacks of the natives that populated the outskirts, El Fuerte is located on the shore of the river of the same name.

Visiting it, send us back to passed times by watching its colonial style constructions.

It is very pleasant for the visitor to travel through its paved streets, the arches of its entries, the newsstand of the parade ground, to see the old large houses of Porfirian style with its extensive interior entries and its gratings of wrought iron, besides the typical corners and gardens.

In El Fuerte are made high-quality craft rewarded to national level; also you will like to visit its recently remodeled Fort, which has become museum, to walk for its jetty, to admire its well conserved buildings and to eat tasty plates in its restaurants on the shore of the river or in the city.

Special to taste their exotic flavors, like the cauques or prawns of river, bobwhite, dove, lobina and shrimps, prepared in different ways. You will love their taste!
